Op zijn 16e leerde hij zijn eerste akkoorden op gitaar van zanger Guus. Guus zei toen vervolgens als grapje: \u201cAls je nou goed oefent kunnen we een band beginnen\u201d. Inmiddels spelen Guus, Joey en ook Storm al 10 jaar samen in de band. Joey heeft door de jaren heen vooral zichzelf leren gitaar spelen maar heeft hier en daar les gehad. Hij speelt altijd op zijn zelfbouw gitaarversterker die hem zijn unieke en mooie gitaarsound geeft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hij ondersteunt de band met strakke slagjes en snijdende gitaarsolo\u2019s. Ook doet hij vaak de tweede stem in de nummers.
